Brief Biography

Gordon Hubbard is one of the most prominent Australian proponents of the business benefits of Linux, Open Source and Open Standards based computing to both industry and the public sector.

Gordon is Managing Director at Custom Technology Australia Pty Ltd and also a member of the Board of Directors of AUUG Inc. (The Organisation for Unix, Linux and Open Source professionals) where he holds the office of Treasurer and is chairman of the "Open Computing for Government" (OCG) board subcommittee. He also shares his extensive experience by accepting consulting briefs, presenting seminars and writing on Linux, UNIX and Open Source business and technical strategies.

Gordon has over 20 years experience in the high technology industry. He founded Custom Technology in 1989 and served as Managing Director until late 1999. He left to join Caldera Inc (now known as "The SCO Group") as Regional Manager, SE Asia, ANZ, India during the time that it acquired the now controversial SCO Inc. While there he established Caldera's South East Asia business and spearheaded rapid growth in regional business partnerships and revenue. Gordon returned to Custom Technology in mid 2001.

Before founding Custom Technology, Gordon was Engineering Manager at the LAN and communications product manufacturer Integral Fibre Systems were he led the engineering team and was responsible for all R&D activities. Prior to this he held Development Engineer positions at consulting company Crooks Michell Peacock Stewart, computer hardware and software developer Ausdata and UK based defence contractor Racal Electronics.

Gordon has presented numerous seminars at Government, industry and vendor events in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and India. He was also a contributing author to the "Revised Edition Linux Pocket Book" (featuring OpenLinux and Red Hat Linux) with the first edition published by ACP Publishing in September 1999 and the second edition published January 2000.

Gordon graduated from the New South Wales Institute of Technology (now known as the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia) with a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours. He lives in Sydney with his wife and two children.
